Supporting actor - this is how one could probably describe the fate of the former Schwarzenhorn Castle. The Counts of Montfort-Feldkirch founded it at the beginning of the 13th century, and Schwarzenhorn is first mentioned in 1256. By this time, however, it was already losing importance, with Jagdberg Castle surpassing it in popularity. In the 14th century Schwarzenhorn was sold to the principality of Celle and later devastated by the Appenzell War. Since then the castle has turned into a ruin. Schwarzenhorn is an elongated complex of which parts of the keep with a light slit halfway up are still preserved. There are also remains of walls from the time of construction. In several stages, all visible parts of the keep and the ring wall were renovated.
